Ask Terry Questions Identity protection

Identity protection

By Terry Savage on May 27, 2024 | Credit/Debt

Hello Terry,
In freezing my credit at Equifax, they said I opened a car loan in March /24. I did not but I had to answer the question to continue my freeze process. Am I OK?

Terry Says

No, but are you sure that wasn’t one of the security questions they asked you?? Typically they will ask you to acknowledge loans and credit cards and even previous addresses in a sort of “multiple choice” format designed to establish your identity.  Go back and try again — reading carefully.  First step — get access to your current credit report from them.   You’ll answer questions for your security.  Read the report before trying to freeze it.  I’m guessing the loan won’t be on there.  If it is– please write back to me immediately.
