Long term Care insurance

By Terry Savage on September 02, 2021 | Insurance & Annuities

I am a 71 year old female, a widow. I am thinking about getting long term health insurance, but don’t know where to start or if I can afford it. My brother said he paid $120,000 for a policy that will cover him for life. This is impossible for me.

Terry Says

Yes, the cost of Long Term Care Insurance (which covers “custodial care” — something Medicare does not cover — depends on your age and health. But there are some policies that combine life and long term care. If you die without using the care benefits, then your heirs get a death benefit. And if you currently have some cash value life insurance, you may be able to move it into one of these “combo” policies.
