Ask Terry Questions long term care insurance

long term care insurance

By Terry Savage on October 20, 2015 | Insurance & Annuities

We are both 63 years old, retired teachers, and are considering long term care insurance issued through Lincoln Financial. The initial payout seems costly. Is long term care insurance worth it? Or will medicare be just as good? Thanks for your help

Terry Says:  Oh, please don’t make the mistake of thinking that Medicare covers long term “custodial” care.  Medicare only covers a limited period of SKILLED nursing care (meaning you need injections, an IV, a catheter, etc) and only after you have been hospitalized.  Long Term Care Insurance covers assistance with basic activities of daily living — dressing, bathing, feeding, toileting, etc.  (It’s horrible to think you’d need help doing that, but once you reach age 65 the chances are good that you will need some form of care in your lifetime.)

My trusted resource for LTC insurance is MAGA, LTC  (www.MAGALTC.com)t 800-533-6242 (ask for Brian Gordon)  or Phyllis Shelton at www.GotLTCi.com.  You are welcome to mention my name, but I get nothing from this except the satisfaction of knowing you will be well and competently advised.
