Married Couples on different Medicare Plans
Hi Terry, thanks for all the great work that you do; my wife and I appreciate it. My question is: do my wife and I have to be on the same Medicare supplemental plan, or Medicare Advantage Plan? Can I be on a Medicare Supplemental Plan, including Part D, while my wife would be on a Medicare Advantage Plan? The rationale is that I have pre-existing conditions and my wife does not. Despite the low, up front costs of an Advantage plan, I’m not comfortable switching over to an Advantage plan when I’ve had great coverage for the last 6 years with my supplemental plan. We’re in a position where we can afford the monthly premiums, so that is not an issue. Thanks for your help. Tom Keating

Your Medicare choices are individual. Yes, you can each be on a different plan. I’d suggest, if you can afford it, that you EACH stick with Original Medicare and a Supplement. Don’t give that up if you can afford it. But do check your Part D drug plan. Pls read the latest column at my website.
