Medicare
I am 68, divorced for one year. Last year I chose Humana ppo with dental and vision. I now find myself in need of extensive dental which Humana doesn’t cover-not even a crown or root canal. Clearly this choice was a mistake I don’t want to make again. What would you suggest?
I am not a wealthy woman, but would rather pay for good healthcare than suffer the consequences of a bad choice.

Well, NO Advantage plans offer much more than a few teeth cleanings, or maybe one crown, in any one year. Dental isn’t covered under Medicare or Medicare supplements, either.
Here’s a recent Forbes comparison of the best Advantage dental plans — They note that “Some plans offer a “dental allowance” of anywhere from $350 to $5,000 that can be used to pay for a variety of approved procedures.”
BUT, if you have already been diagnosed with needing care, you may not qualify for the plan. And if you do, you can be sure the premiums will be expensive. Still, this open enrollment period is the right time to look around.
Most people find they must pay dental costs out of savings. And yes, it can be very expensive. (I think that’s why I’m a fanatic about flossing– after watching my mother pay expensive dental bills!)
