medicare

During our family Thanksgiving meal I asked my 93year old mother, who still lives alone in the house we grew up in, if she enrolled in Medicare, and in a Medicare Advantage Plan. She said no. My question(s): Does she need to re-enroll in Medicare every year? She doesn’t take any medications, so does it make sence to enroll in an Advantage Plan?

Whoa — you asked some questions, but not ALL. You need to find out whether she has traditional Medicare (likely at that age) and a supplement (also likely). If she has both, you don’t want to fool around with her coverage!
She should have a Part D drug plan, but at this stage instead of paying the penalty, probably you just want to wait and see if she needs drugs in the future. She has great genes — and so do you!!
But when it’s YOUR turn to sign up for Medicare (soon???) be sure to take a Part D drug plan (and original Medicare and a supplement) when you sign up!
