Medicare

By Terry Savage on October 29, 2026 | Insurance & Annuities

On my wife’s Cigna insurance. 65 turning 66 in February. Do I have to sign up for Medicare? Rather not. Heard something on the radio today about penalties. Not sure it has to do with prescription drugs?

Terry Says

As long as you are fully covered by your spouse’s insurance, you do not need to sign up for ANY part of Medicare. When she retires, you will each sign up for Medicare. Hopefully you will go for Original Medicare (Part A and B) and also buy a supplement, Plan G. And that’s when you sign up for a Part D drug plan — even if you are not taking any drugs at the time.

Two months before retirement, run your scenario through MedicarePocketProtector.com and they will give you recommendations and plan comparisons.
