Ask Terry Questions Medicare Advantage

Medicare Advantage

By Terry Savage on October 04, 2026 | Insurance & Annuities

My brother is 80 and lives in Michigan. His insurance guy convinced him to switch to a Medicare Advantage plan. It used to be that you could switch out after that one year and we’re trying to talk him into doing that. Can he switch back once after one year?

Terry Says

No. But he CAN switch back during Open Enrollment now — Oct 15- Dec 7.
BUT he should first make sure he can get Supplement Plan G, based on his current health. Only during his initial enrollment period is he guaranteed acceptance to the best supplement regardless of health.

So start immediately. Read my column on the new Medicare Pocket Protector website. That will walk you through the options and help you apply.
