Medicare choices

Hi Terry, Big fan here. I have Alexa program and every Wednesday WGN RADIO I’m 66 ,still working , Hoping to retire very soon. I’m widowed I signed up for Medicare part a but because I’d like to plan ahead I’m trying to decide which Medicare to sign up for when it’s time. From what I’ve read on your website, Medicare advantage may not be what I want. But how do I select a supplement right now? I have United Health Care and I believe they offer a supplement. How does the supplement Work?

Whoa — you need to go back through my columns at TerrySavage.com and search the word “Medicare” to read a lot more.

Yes, avoid Medicare Advantage like the plague!

Go to www.medicare.gov and search for supplements — Right now Plan G is the most comprehensive, and all providers (insurers) provide the exact same coverage.  You should also search for Part D — the drug coverage — even if you don’t currently take any prescriptions.   Then chose plans offered in your area by comparing premiums, and pharmacies (for drugs).

Medicare.gov is the one website that really works, and will walk you through the entire process.  You can set it up to start when your SS starts, and they will deduct the Supplement premiums from your SS check.
