Ask Terry Questions Medicare Co-pay plan

Medicare Co-pay plan

By Terry Savage on October 24, 2024 | Insurance & Annuities

I am 75 and on traditional Medicare. Retiring 3/25 from a job that has given me BC/BS insurance as my co-pay.My insurance will terminate upon my retirement. Can I wait till I retire to buy a new insurance plan or must I do it during the open enrollment period.
Thank you

Well, you can apply for your supplement to start on the month of your retirement plan. But if I were you, I think I would apply now, during open enrollment, for a plan that starts January 1st. Yes, you’ll pay a few months of extra premiums, but I would want to know right now what coverage is available in this unique situation.

Since you already signed up for Medicare years ago, you no longer have the initial right (within 6 months of signup) to get the most comprehensive Plan G. Now is the time to do the research. Use an agent or go to www.eHealth.com or call them at 833-862-0655 to have a serious discussion about this.
