Ask Terry Questions Medicare deduction from social security

Medicare deduction from social security

By Terry Savage on April 20, 2024 | Insurance & Annuities

Medicare effective 4/1/24. The deduction for A and B should show on May disbursement not on April’s correct? Payments are for the month before. We did not have coverage in March and they deducted for it.

Terry Says

Tricky stuff here. You get your Social Security itself the month AFTER you start your benefits, because they pay in arrears. But your Medicare premiums start the month you sign up for Medicare. REad this from Medicare, very confusing, I know:

My advice: Don’t pick a fight with Medicare over one month’s premium!
