Ask Terry Questions Medicare if still working

Medicare if still working

By Terry Savage on November 25, 2023 | Insurance & Annuities

Hi Terry,
I am 66 yrs old, still working and have private medical insurance through my employer.
I plan on working until 70.
Should I still enroll in Medicare or wait until I claim social security?

ps: You’re The Best!

Terry Says

Big smile, you made my holiday weekend. As long as your employer has more than 20 employees, you can keep your private coverage. HOwever, you should enroll in Medicare Part A– which is free. Then when you retire, you can apply for Medicare Part B (and a supplement and Part D) with no penalty for late enrollment.
But check with your HR department, just to be sure you don’t fall under that small company exemption.
