Medicare Part D. Late signup?

By Terry Savage on January 06, 2026 | Insurance & Annuities

Hi Terry,
Happy New Year Terry,
I’m sure that I’m in this boat with a number of other people.
My parents were supposed to sign up for Part D for Medicare. Well they didn’t do what they said they were going to do. It’s always a struggle for them to release control.

They are in their 80’s and now I’m not sure if there is anything they can do. My dad is on a
quite a number of drugs for his heart condition.

Do you have any advice for where I can guide them? I don’t have a good feeling that we will get anywhere with Medicare.

Praying for miracle,

Terry Says

They can still sign up, but they each will pay a hefty monthly penalty fee for the years they missed. But it’s likely preferable to paying for meds out of pocket, even using an RX card. There is a $2100 cap on out of pocket cap (not including premiums) for each of them.
