Medicare PDP – $0 premium, $0 cost, for generics

By Terry Savage on November 22, 2024 | Insurance & Annuities

I’m ready to sign up for Wellcare Value Script 151, but I don’t understand; I pay no premium, and there is no charge for generic drugs. But even generic drugs have a cost! Medicare doesn’t subsidize Part D PDP’s. Too good to be true? The catch?

Terry Says

That’s exactly what I thought! Actually, Medicare this year is giving a smallsubsidy to Part D insurers, to offset the cap of $2,000. The idea is to keep premiums down. WellCare is doing a marketing thing — to get lots of signups (maybe to sell them Advantage next year when they raise prices??). I have no idea — but we will see what happens next year. In the meantime, yes this is true — the first thing I’ve seen that is “too good to be true” –but it’s TRUE (for this year, anyway!)
Read my latest post on Part D on my website, it includes this explanation.
