Ask Terry Questions Medicare Plan N vs G

Medicare Plan N vs G

By Terry Savage on March 29, 2026 | Insurance & Annuities

Hi Terry,
I was wondering why plan N is never discussed, as the only difference between N and G is the Part B excess charges and the $20 office copays ($50 for ER). The price difference between the plans is substantial, definitely offsetting the office copays. Would love your viewpoint.

Terry Says

Ah, but you’re missing something important. Medicare G not only covers co-pays, but any “excess charges” that a doctor might charge above standard Medicare reimbursement levels. If you are sick, and want the “best” docs, that could really add up.
There’s a reason for the price difference — it’s the exposure to these other costs, not just the per/visit copays!
