Medicare requirements for government employee

By Terry Savage on November 24, 2019 | Insurance & Annuities

I currently get my insurance from my former government job. It also covers my wife and 4 children under 18. I turn 65 in Feb. I thought someone said I didn’t need to file since I’m still working and have insurance through my old job. Is that correct? I certainly do not want to make a mistake reference medicare. thank you

Terry Says

Since it’s a former GOVERNMENT job, I’m going to ask you to check with the HR department, because there may be some special circumstances regarding that coverage. (II assume it’s Tricare?) For mot people who are still working and currently covered, there is no need to file for Medicare — unless your employee p0lan covers fewer that 20 people. But do check with the government agency that manages your plan about their restrictions.
