Medicare supplemental health insurance
My 84 year old sister has asked for my help. Her Blue Cross/Blue Shield supplemental health policy was cancelled after she forgot to pay premiums. She found out she would have to re-apply for coverage. The BC/BS agent told us by phone that he could arrange for coverage beginning January 1, 2022, but he said that my sister would have to cancel a policy which he said she has with Aetna. My sister says she knows nothing about an Aetna policy. Not sure how to sort this out.

Whew. This is complicated. (And one good reason to have premiums automatically deducted from your checking account each month!)
I can think of two ways to go on this.
The first will cost you $600 — but will guarantee that she gets the best, most appropriate solution! Contact Diane Omdahl at 65Incorporated — (262) 223-3433. She is the expert on all things Medicare and will take the time to figure out what your sister has now. And you can trust her completely.
The other is to call Medicare.gov at 800-633-4227.
But do this IMMEDIATELY — she has only three days to get signed up for a new supplement.
OR, to consider an all-in-one Medicare Advantage program, which might be a good idea in her case.
If she wants to search the costs, and find out what doctors and hospitals are included in a plan offered in her state, go to www.Medicare.gov and search for Advantage plans. Or pay attention to those TV commercials!
The only caveat with these plans is that they may limit her choice of doctors.
