non receipt of stimulus check for my son

By Terry Savage on January 18, 2021 | Wild Card

Terry, need some guidance with phone number or website or something..

My son’s original taxes were filed in 2020 on time for the year 2019. He’s 24. The tax accountant forgot to uncheck the box saying that someone can claim you as a dependent. We no longer have him as a dependent as he has finished undergrad college and working full time. He never received the $1200 stimulus check. We contacted the IRS in November 2020 when we heard that we could find out status of those not yet receiving their stimulus checks. When we realized that the box was check in error, an amended 1040-X was sent to the IRS in Philadelphia, PA. on November 17, 2020. This is where the IRS told us to send the amended form. It’s now January 14th and still no check. Now the second way of checks are going out. Trying to get to talk to someone at IRS, forget it. I guess I lucked out the first time back in November. Any assistance, suggestions, phone numbers or websites we can use to find out what happen to my son’s stimulus check. Thanks for your help. I enjoy your segments on WGN morning news.

You get a chance to start over. Read this article to see how he can file his 2020 return and claim both the original $1200 and the new $600 stimulus payments on Line 30. Make sure YOU file first for 2020, as soon as the forms come out in mid-February. Make sure you dont claim him as a dependent. THEN he should file his own 2020 return a week later. His refundable credit from Line 30 should come in early March. And get a new tax preparer!!
