Paying monthly bills on a cash back credit card

By Terry Savage on January 11, 2025 | Credit/Debt

My husband and I would like to get one cash back credit card and pay all of our monthly bills. Rent, utilities, phones ,subscriptions and cars. Would you advise this ? What card would you suggest with the best cash back option?

Terry Says

There’s nothing wrong with using a credit card of any type to pay bills, and collect points or get cash back. But you need to make sure the merchant is not charging you “extra” for the use of a credit card to make up for about 3% merchant processing costs. And you need to be sure you pay the bill on time and in full every month to keep your credit score high.
