Ask Terry Questions RETIREMENT

RETIREMENT

By Terry Savage on September 21, 2019 | Wild Card

MY WIFE IS 62 YEARS OLD. SHE WANTS TO RETIRE NEXT MONTH AND NOT WORK. IS THERE ANY DISADVANTAGES IF SHE WAITS 2 OR 3 YEARS TO FILE FOR SOCIAL SECURITY? THANKS, JOE DRUMSTA

Terry Says

Please do not let her file early — unless you absolutely cannot afford otherwise.  It is a huge penalty if she files before her full retirement age, sometime in her 66th year!
