Ask Terry Questions Retirement impact on FAFSA

Retirement impact on FAFSA

By Terry Savage on June 19, 2020 | College Savings / Student Loans

Prior to my retirement (voluntary) in December 2019, I submitted a FAFSA application for my daughter. Based on the application, my daughter was not deemed eligible for a subsidized student loan. My retirement income (pension) is approximately 75% of my pre-retirement income. My question is whether I should submit a revised FAFSA based on my change in income.

Terry Says

Sure, it can’t hurt to try. It’s not just the income, but the “status” of retirement that could make a difference. Burt HURRY! The deadline to file or adjust FAFSA for this year is June 30th!!!
