Social Security after death
Social Security benefits are understood to be paid on the fourth Wednesday of the month and are for the previous month. When a person dies, is is the SSA entitled to claim a refund of the payment issued/ received in the month the recipient dies? Thank you for your consideration of this question. Robert

Social Security does not pay any benefits for the month in which a person dies. That doesn’t mean that a check — or direct deposit — won’t still land in the account. But the estate is obligated to repay that money.
