Social security disability application

By Terry Savage on January 31, 2024 | Wild Card

My daughter applied for disability over a year ago. They keep delaying her an answer. Is this normal or is it because they are having so many problems. It’s been very frustrating for her. Thank you.

Getting disability benefits from Social Security can take as long as 3 years! And applicants are frequently denied. According to AARP, “With the growing delays in disability decisions, the SSA’s caseload of pending claims has swollen. In 2019, just before the start of the pandemic, about 600,000 applicants were awaiting initial determinations on their benefit requests; in 2023, for the first time, the backlog crossed the 1 million mark.”
