Social security part D

By Terry Savage on January 06, 2025 | Insurance & Annuities

Hi Terry,
I am retiring this May, when I turn 66. I do plan to wait until my full retirement age at 66 & 10 months to collect my social security, which is March 2026. I currently have qualifying health insurance with prescription drugs so I plan to sign up for Medicare part B, plan G when I retire this May. I wasn’t planning on signing up for Part D since I don’t take any prescription drugs. However, I saw where you told someone they should sign up for Part D even if they don’t take any prescriptions. Can you explain why you feel we SHOULD sign up for Part D, even thought I don’t take any prescriptions? Thank you!

Terry Says

You MUST sign up for Part D at the time you start Medicare. If you fail to do so, there is a penalty of 1% of the average monthly premium, CUMULATIVE. And one day, believe me, you WILL need drugs. So go to Medicare.gov to search or get help on your Medicare Supplement and Part D plan from my expert Thom Dillon of JT Medicare Solutions. https://jtmedicaresolutions.com
I’m guessing he will find you a ZERO premium Part D plan!
