Social security question – Can my spouse collect half of my social security
When I start to collect social security, can my wife start to collect half of my social security since her social security will be well under Half of mine? I am planning to retire between 67 and 70. Hopefully pushing it until I am 70. My wife is a little over 9 months younger than me.
Thanks
Jim

You should spend the $49 and get the exact answer at www.MaximizeMySocialSecurity.com. Speaking generally, your spouse will get the higher of half your benefit or her full benefit. But she will not get the delayed retirement credits you get if you wait until age 70. So it’s wise to use this program to determine the optimum age for her to retire, and which benefits she should get.
