Social security retirement

By Terry Savage on January 17, 2024 | Wild Card

I am a municipal worker with 33 years of service in the private sector am I still eligible for social security retirement

Terry Says

Ask your HR department about the WEP — pension offset. If you didn’t pay into SS during your working years then it’s unlikely you’ll get any benefit besides your pension.
But if you’re saying that you’re NOW a municipal worker and you had 33 years before that in the PRIVATE sector, paying into SS, then your SS will not be reduced.
