Social Security – Should the fear of Social Security going broke affect my decision of when to start it?

Hi Terry,
After reading your column “Is Social Security going broke?” I wonder if I should stick with my plan to not start receiving benefits until I turn 70 or if I should start benefits sooner. You and other financial advisors usually recommend waiting until 70 to start receiving benefits if you can afford to do so. But if it is likely that Social Security benefits will be reduced at some point in order to keep Social Security solvent it may make sense to start sooner. I am 68 years old and can afford to wait until I am 70. What do you think? Thanks.

They will “print” the money if necessary. Stick with your plans to wait until 70!
