Stimulus Check
Hello Terry –
I never received a stimulus check and I should have according to my income last year. I am 66 years old. I did file my 2019 income tax return on April 13, 2020 and my AGI was $14,400. I lost my job in Oct. 2018 and I filed my 2018 return last year (in 2019) and my income was $102,000 that year. I also, have direct deposit. I have been checking the IRS website at least once a week and its says We don’t have enough information yet (we’re working on this) or you may not be eligible for a payment. I am wondering if they are going off my 2018 return. What can I do? There is no one to call etc. You help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Terry Says
There are several possibilities. First, it is likely that they looked at your 2018 return and decided you didn’t qualify. So NEXT YEAR when you file your 2020 return, you can claim the $1200 against any taxes you owe. That is the most likely way this will be handled.
But at age 66 you might be on Social Security, so there is some small hope that your stimulus will still land there by direct deposit.
