Ask Terry Questions Stimulus check

Stimulus check

By Terry Savage on August 10, 2020 | Wild Card

Hi, my sister’s husband died October 2019. When she filed her 2019 tax return she indicated he had died and the date of death. She recently received a stimulus check in her name only but for the $2400. If you look at the income for them as a couple they fall within the limits. If you look at the income as a single she is over the limit. Any advise on what she should do with the check.? Thanks

Deposit it!! Save $1200, on the assumption that one day they will figure it out, and ask for half the amount back.
Trying to get half the money back to them is almost impossible, and will only mess up things further.
