Ask Terry Questions Stimulus Check

Stimulus Check

By Terry Savage on February 15, 2021 | Wild Card

I’m receiving SSDI and I received the first two stimulus checks, I haven’t filed taxes in 5 years, do I have to file taxes because I received the checks?

Terry Says

The stimulus checks are NOT taxable. But if you didn’t get the SECOND $600 check, then you should file a 2020 return (even if your income is too low to be required to file) and claim the $600 on line 30. Read this article for instructions.

Go to www.IRS.gov/freefile to find out where to get free help filing this tax return. You’ll want to do it electronically and input your bank information so you can get the stimulus faster.
