Stimulus check
My unemployed adult son is living with me due to medical reasons. He never received the second stimulus check. I planned on filing my tax return with him as a dependent since I provided nearly 100% of his support. In your column, you stated that a dependent cannot file a tax return to get a stimulus check. Does that apply here or what do we have to do for him to receive it?

He has to file his own tax return for 2020, state that he provides at least 50% of his support, and that he cannot be claimed as a dependent on anyone else’s return. It doesn’t sound like that applies here, so claim him as a dependent, and on Line 30 ask for his $600 check — and spend it on him!
