Ask Terry Questions Stimulus check after recent pay cut

Stimulus check after recent pay cut

By Terry Savage on April 01, 2020 | Wild Card

Hi Terry – It seems that the government will not be issuing pay checks to individuals who filed taxes and made over $99K. When I filed my 2019 taxes I would have been slightly over that ; however, I’ve taken a 40% pay cut in an effort to mitigate staff layoffs. So, now I am making considerably less than that $99K threshold. Is there a way I can still receive the government check?

You are one of the cases “caught in the middle” — The stimulus check is based on 2019 income. If you lose your job this year, you don’t qualify if your income was too high last year. Sorry.
