Ask Terry Questions Stimulus on joint return

Stimulus on joint return

By Terry Savage on February 15, 2021 | Wild Card

My husband and I filed joint taxes last year. My husband is employed and I am retired and receive Social security. I received a stimulus check but not my husband. Shouldn’t we get one stimulus check for the two of us if we made under the required amount? Do I cash my check or wait to see if we get a joint stimulus check and then send mine back?

I assume you’re talking about your 2019 return. For 2020, have you filed yet? Are you under the $150,000 limit for a joint return in 2020 to receive stimulus payments?
If so, on Line 30 of your 2020 return, you can claim the unpaid original $1200 and current $600 payments. Read this article.
