Student loan co-signer

By Terry Savage on August 27, 2022 | College Savings / Student Loans

I am a cosigner on a student loan and as of now there is about $18,000 owed on that student loan. Does the $10,000 forgiveness Concern me as a cosigner. I know the student does not earn $125,000 a year but because of my financial status does that affect her forgiveness? Thank you for your help

Terry Says

Parents don’t co-sign Federal student loans. So I’m assuming yours is a PRIVATE loan, not covered by this proposed forgiveness of $10,000 of Federal student loans based on income.
Some parents have Parent Plus loans, and although no announcement has been made, I’ve heard they may include these loans in the forgiveness plan, based on the parent’s income.
