Student Loan Forgiveness for Public Service

By Terry Savage on July 13, 2022 | College Savings / Student Loans

Hello Terry,
I worked for 5 years at an Illinois Suportive Living Facility from 2008-2013. I was under the impression that the federal student loan forgiveness program requires that you be employed by a nonprofit at the time of your application, but my therapist told me that she didn’t think it was true. That I could file an application with the program even though I worked at a qualifying workplace so many years ago. Can you please advise?

There are ways to become part of the public service student loan forgiveness program, even if you didn’t work for a non-profit. Obviously, government and school system jobs qualify. Use the tool at this Federal website to explore the possibiliti9es.
