do you know of any private loan companies that will give an incoming college freshman a $7000 loan that doesn’t require a co-signer? that would be the top amount needed, after Stafford loan and a $4000 scholarship. Only a part time salary. Realize there will be a higher interest rate. Thank you

There is NO financial institution that will give a loan to a college freshman without a co-signer. But you can go back to the school’s admissions office and explain that due to CHANGED CIRCUMSTANCES your child cannot attend unless they can increase their aid package. I’m about to post a column on that subject, detailing alternatives.
