Ask Terry Questions Student loans

Student loans

By Terry Savage on September 27, 2021 | College Savings / Student Loans

Is there a possibility that student loan debt will be forgiven by the government? I am getting my masters in nursing currently at DePaul University and I am understanding that there might be a partial relief fund coming for student loans. Thank you!

Terry Says

I would give a ZERO chance that all student loans will be forgiven. And no proposal of that type is included in this year’s budget. A small amount might be forgiven in the future.
BUT since you will be entering into a public service position (nursing) when you graduate, you should immediately sign up for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. Read all about it here.

And make sure your employer participates. Read this recent column I wrote on the subject, making it easier for employers to certify.
