Taking Social Security while still working

By Terry Savage on August 23, 2025 | Social Security

Hi Terry we listen to you on WGN radio. Our question is my husband and I are both 65 and both still working full time . My husband works for a union 150 local Operators of IL and I work at a local church. Our question is should we start taking our SS now while we are both still working and plan on working till 67? we have had mixed answers from accountants and planners. What do you think?

Terry Says

NO! NO! NO! Do NOT take SS until you reach your Full Retirement Age at 67.
If you take it early, your benefits will be reduced permanently.

Whoever gave you advice to start early should be immediately crossed off your list of people to deal with!!
