Tuition aid for low income households
Hi Terry,
I’m a single mother with two daughters in college.
Do you have any recommendations to apply for college tuition help other than Fafsa in the state of IL for low household income ?
Fafsa approved a part of the tuition and still have a remaining balance that we can’t afford it.
Please advise?
Thank you so much !

This is the most difficult spot for low-income parents, who have kids that can get some Federal aid, but not enough.
For starters, register to find any scholarships or “free money” that you can get. Go to:
https://www.scholarships.com/
Next, contact the school that has accepted your daughter. They often have money under the “merit” category, if they really want your daughter to enroll. This can come in the form of grants or work/study programs.
And finally,, though most kids want to go away to school, you can really cut the bill by having them live at home and attend community college.
Does your high school have a college advisor? They are trained to know where the money is, and what school might be willing to grant more aid to your child.
Please try to avoid Parent Plus loans — they will bury you for the rest of your life!
