STUDENT LOANS Phishing Scam?
received inquiry from American Education Services holder of SunTrust student loans requesting proof by submitting copies of identification because information they have may on birth date may not be accurate. Do not feel comfortable sending copy of birth certificate, passport, ID, license, OR IS THIS MANDATORY. Would prefer a phone call to them, nothing over mail in print. Opinion?

Good for you for hesitating! I would definitely NOT forward any of this material. Contact the bank by phone immediately. Don't use the number that was on the request. Use the number that is on your student loan application or monthly payment stub. This sounds like this is a phishing scam! Any time you are contacted out of the blue, do not respond to the inquiry-- but instead contact the financial institution directly!
