Ask Terry Questions Medicare Sign-up

Medicare Sign-up

By Terry Savage on October 29, 2026 | Insurance & Annuities

I am 68 and still working, and I have committed to my company to work through 2027. My wife (age 66) and I are on my company’s benefit package, which covers everything with a very reasonable monthly paycheck deduction. We both signed up for basic Medicare when we turned 65, but have not signed up for anything else, since we have coverage through my company. Any issues here? Do we need to sign up for anything else prior to my retirement?

Terry Says

I hope you didn’t sign up for anything but Part A, which is free. And I also hope you know that by signign up for Part A you can no longer participate in a Health Savings Account!

As long as you have comparable coverage from work, you do not have to sign up for Part B, or a supplement, or Part D for drugs. Do that when your aer two months from retirement. I have been suggesting you do your research on this at
