Ask Terry Questions Debt Consolidation (Urgent Matter)

Debt Consolidation (Urgent Matter)

By Terry Savage on January 15, 2023 | Credit/Debt

Hi Terry,

Hope you help me by some questions I have. I wanted to ask I signed up for National Debt Relief which they use Robert Gitmeid to negotiate your credit card balances. I’m asking if this is a reputable company or if I would be better to cancel them to go to a non for profit company who will work with your creditors? I’m 8 months in a rear and one of my accounts have been sent for a pending lawsuit so I don’t know what route to go. I’ve been struggling with bills etc. or would I be better off filing a chapter 13? If you can reply ASAP I would appreciate your feedback.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Terry Says

The problem with companies like National Debt Relief is that they tell you to stop paying all your bills, and set the money aside so they can negotiate. In the meantime, your credit is ruined even more.
I suggest you immediately contact the National foundation for Credit Counseling at 800-388-2227. That will connect you to the nearest local office. Get all your stuff together and set up a meeting. They may even do it over the phone.
You can trust them. And it’s free or inexpensive. They will tell you if you’re too far gone and should file bankruptcy, but from your post, I don’t think you’re there yet– especially if you still have an income.
Please write back and let me know what happens.
