Ask Terry Questions Owed taxes

Owed taxes

By Terry Savage on April 24, 2026 | Credit/Debt

I owe irs about $30,000 due to not paying Quarterly estimated taxes, I’m paying $650 every month from my social security. Are those tax relief companies out there than can help or get a loan and then pay off the loan and avoid late fees from irs. This is all my fault and I want to eliminate this problem. I’m 75 and don’t want this problem for my wife, thanks

So, it appears you already made a deal with the IRS to pay $650 a month? How long ago did you do that deal, and how did that happen?
There are definitely programs that will help you — but I can’t recommend any of those services. Instead, please call the National Foundation for Credit Counseling at 800-388-2227.
They will put you in touch with someone you can trust to help. Please do so immediately, as they will go through your finances and make recommendations to get you out of this.
