Fraudulent Purchase
Hello Terry,
My husband purchased a piece of equipment online ($8k+), used his Mastercard to pay. He received emails confirming shipment but then odd messages started: would have to re-ship, item damaged, etc. The latest email says the item was delivered but it wasn’t. We’ve called the numbers of seller & shipper – no answer. It’s obviously a scam.
Mastercard was contacted and a report made. Mastercard has told us the matter is “resolved” but the amount remains on our account.
Do you have any advice as to how to proceed?
And yes, I can’t believe he purchased this online because it was “a good deal”… can you see my eye roll! Feel free to bring this up on Wednesday with John Williams on WGN, my husband is an avid listener but obviously is having difficulty letting your cautionary advice soak in. Aargh.
Any help would be appreciated!

Your ONLY recourse in this instance is MasterCard. Keep bugging them to take this off your bill because of the fraud. Let them know you reached out to a newspaper columnist about this problem.
And please write back and let me know what happens.
You will have to be the “squeaky wheel.”
