Well, I have some hope for you. On Monday the Illinois Housing Development Authority is going to launch a program for Illinois residents offering $5,000 in rental assistance. The website says “under construction” now — but it will be open at 9 am Monday morning.
Here is a link to the site where you should apply.

There are some other protections for renters in Illinois. The state moratorium on evictions was extended to August 22nd:
UPDATE July 22, 2020: Eviction filings will be on hold in the state of Illinois through August 22, 2020 according to a recent announcement from the office of Governor J.B. Pritzker. Landlords were not permitted to file eviction cases through the end of June according to COVID-19 Executive Order no. 37, which reissued the previously announced Executive Order 2020-30. This Order deals with residential eviction filings and enforcement for the state of Illinois.

And maybe by then you’ll have another Federal stimulus check in your hands. Or, the Congress will have extended the moratorium on evictions (for landlords with ovt insured mortgages) for an even longer period.
Feel free to show the above rule to your landlord! Or direct the landlord to contact me and I will be happy to set him/her straight on the law.
