Ask Terry Questions Retroactive benefits

Retroactive benefits

By Terry Savage on July 24, 2020 | Wild Card

I was laid off 3/17/2020. I didn’t apply for benefits until end of April. I received a debit card in the mail but I didn’t activate; I chose the direct deposit option. I have been recertifying every two weeks and have been receiving my benefits regularly.
Am I entitled to retroactive benefits dating back to my date of lay off? Would this money be on the card I have not activated?

Terry Says

Yes, you do deserve money from the date of layoff. And if you received the card before this crazy fraud stuff started in June, by all means activate it and see if those early weeks of benefits are loaded on it.
