Summons

By Terry Savage on September 12, 2025 | Credit/Debt

I was recently served a summons for non-payment of a credit card. What is my recourse? I’ve gotten over my head with credit cards. My only income is my Social Security. What would be the best solution? Debt relief or bankruptcy?

Terry Says

Immediately call the National Foundation for Credit Counseling at 800-388-2227. You will be connected to their local non-profit agency. You can trust them to advise you of your rights. Likely, if the debt has been outstanding for a while, it was sold to a credit collector. But there are limitations on the age of the debt that can be collected. And other defenses. So make that call today and let them go to work on your behalf. There should be no fee, or just a very small amount for their help.

And please write back and let me know what happens. Don’t ignore this, as they could win by default, and posssibly garnish your wages.
