Credit report check – surprise fees

Hi Terry, I followed your instructions for checking for Identity theft by checking my credit reports (very helpful – thanks!) My credit reports have been locked since the Equifax breach, but I wanted to make sure there was nothing suspicious. I found no problems but Transunion is using the inquiry to automatically sign you up for a monthly $25 service fee without making it obvious. They say it is free, but then hit you with a monthly charge. I never fall for scams like this, so it really surprised me. You might want to make a note of this in your instructions to be wary of hidden fees at Transunion. Even when I cancelled, they made me sign up to their other “free” service to re-lock my report.
