Medicare insurance part B — missed payment

By Terry Savage on August 16, 2020 | Insurance & Annuities

My husband turned 66 feb 26 of this year. In the year 2019 he took medicare insurance benefits when he turned 65. This year he started getting his monthly payments but somehow we didnt get a premium paid in november and neither one of us can remember getting a bill for it. No excuses. We farm and were very busy it was no doubt our mistake but now he has no medicare part B until next july. I respect your opinion and could really use your advice on how to get inusurance to fill in the gap. We are currently trying to appeal to medicare. We are self employed and really need the insurance. We would never have done this intentionally Thankyou

Oh, that’s a horrible situation. And it’s the very best argument I’ve heard for having your Medicare Part B (and D) and supplement premiums either auto-deducted from your checking account every month — or auto-charged on a credit card!

Don’t let this stagger through the Medicare appeals system. It could take forever to resolve!
Do contact the office of the Medicare ombudsman — click link here. The post office is having notable problems; blame it on them!!

And you’re SO right; you don’t want to be without insurance in the meantime. Go to www.eHealthInsurance.com and ask about their one-year policies. They don’t cover everything — but better than no insurance at all. And absent pre-existing conditions (which they won’t cover) you could get a policy started the next day.

BUT — it’s important that you resolve this as a gap — and do not re-start Medicare Part B. That could make him ineligible for the “best” supplement — especially if he has a health issue while this is being decided. It could also impact the cost of his Part D drug premiums — and his supplement.
Please let me know that you have this resolved. It will be on my mind, too!
